"Someone contact the Mercury prize people: jazz just went bananas. The year's best party band just jumped off a stage near you." - The Guardian
"Melt Yourself Down's debut is direct and infectious, jostling with harmonic and rhythmic allusions to Nubia, the Middle East, Latin America." - Pitchfork
"Melt Yourself Down is a vivacious, phantasmagorical melting pot, easily the most viscerally exciting album I've heard so far this year. That it manages to meld its mayhem to indelibly memorable tunes is both brilliant and outrageous. You probably owe it to yourself to buy this record." - The Quietus
Melt Yourself Down's debut album is the sound of Cairo '57, Cologne '72, New York '78, London 2014: a blast of fierce funk and punk, Nubian rhythm and detonated jazz The London-based supergroup has been described as "the house band from hell."
Released to widespread acclaim in the UK in 2013, Melt Yourself Down finally sees a North American release on CD and vinyl this spring The initial US CD release will be an exclusive double CD special edition of the album, including a previously unreleased live album (recorded at their breathtaking London show in December) and a new variant of the already iconic album artwork.
The release comes just ahead of their North American live debut in March, with performances at SXSW and in New York The group is the brainchild of Pete Wareham (Acoustic Ladyland, Polar Bear), who's roped in a distinguished crew of brilliant musicians, including Kushal Gaya (Zun Zun Egui), Shabaka Hutchings (Sons Of Kemet, Heliocentrics), Tom Skinner (Hello Skinny, Matthew Herbert, Mulatu Astatke), Ruth Goller (Acoustic Ladyland, Rokia Traore), and Satin Singh (Fela!) The band have built an incontrovertible live reputation in the UK, bringing mayhem to sold out crowds across the country, a feat they hope to repeat in North America this year.
The album was a particular favorite with record stores, receiving Album of the Year accolades from Rough Trade and Amoeba and many others, as well as Time Out, eMusic, Google Play and more. A primal, tribal stew of horns and drums and unhinged vocals, the singles 'We Are Enough', 'Fix My Life' and 'Release!' have been tearing up dancefloors and radio playlists since late 2012.
