SIMIAN MOBILE DISCO
hustler / clik
Release Date: 05/06/2006
at a time when you are as likely to see hot hot heat at manumission, a grime remix of test icicles or zane lowe play zombie death metal on radio one, simian mobile disco's early immersion in something approaching electro-folk as simian and subsequent ascension as djs par excellence has paved the way for them to once again unite elements of rock and techno in the all-conquering way chemical brothers or the prodigy did in the late 90s. starting out as a deep and heavy late night workout, 'hustler's acid levels rise and dissolve the track until four minutes in, when it prolapses into a raw electronic riot, like someone slinging giorgio moroder and josh wink into a man-sized blender and setting to 10. on top of which, new york singer char johnson provides as much sauce as anyone has ever talked about going to a record store. b side 'clik' is a moodily industrial-feeling foray into the twisted world of smd, with a bin-battering bassline doing all the legwork.
