INNER CITY PIRATES / LESSER PANDA
superdark ep
Release Date: 31/03/2008
indie superdark music release their label debut by two bands due to make a huge impact in 2008, innercity pirates and lesser panda, with the 'superdark'. limited to 500 copies only inner city pirates hail from small town wales, the band came together through a 'mutual love of dancing to early club classics to indie and cheese'. it transpires that going to dingy dark bars that smell like rats socks has given them a chance to create something completely the opposite. 'ear sex' rocks, a fuck you take on pop, spilling over with jingles, jangles, dance beats, melody mash ups and stomping stamping riffs whilst 'discussion', a more laid back effort, recalls the sundays and the concretes. produced by jim anderson (head / oceansize) at the prestigious monnow valley studios (oasis, led zeppelin, black sabbath and biffy clyro). the zeitgeist-molesting lesser panda materialised when swarthy singer mariano frogmarched four startled guys out of an east london bath-house straight into his studio round the corner. he gave each of them an instrument and ordered them to play. this menacingly beautiful rock music has been refined in hot chip's brick lane studio and championed by djs such as xfm's john kennedy, and dfa mixmaster tim sweeney. produced by riton (datarock /simian mobile disco), the memorable and elating 'happy birthday' is all energy and drive - a classic dance record with all the urgency and vigour of a rock record whilst dc recordings' wunderkind architeq delivers a spaced out bongo mix.
