VIOLENS
violens ep
Release Date: 03/11/2008
violens (pronounced 'vy-lenz') are a band you'll be hearing a lot more of over the coming months and beyond. they are already causing a huge wave of attention with their sunshine-soaked harmonies, 80's production and 60's psychedelic sounds. it's an irresistible mix with nods to the zombies, the byrds, prefab sprout and the smiths. although they're inherently part of the ny music scene that is currently stamping its mark over here, violens will, without question, defy any scenes and outlast shortlived musical fads within that movement. early this year, singer / producer jorge elbrecht, known for his work with artist collective lansing-dreiden, was asked by mgmt to remix their single 'time to pretend'. that collaboration led to violens' debut performance at nyc's bowery ballroom supporting them and yeasayer. the band has since toured and performed with the likes of grizzly bear, handsome furs, and clinic. they boast the kind of songwriting ability that captures hearts and imaginations from the first listen in songs that you feel like you've always known. lead track 'already over' is drizzled in blissfully harmonised vocals, ethereal 80's synths and playful, brushed drums, all underpinned by much darker and dispassionate lyrics.
'spectator and pupil' is a shoe-gaze tinged pop-anthem-in-the-making, while the equally dreamy and chaotic 'violent sensation descends' is further evidence of the band's effortless songwriting. cd single only.
