hotly-tipped london experimental noise trio three trapped tigers lend their considerable skills to the next chapter of the too pure singles club, joining the excellent company of pulled apart by horses, peggy sue, bear hands and friendship who have all contributed 7"s (limited to 500 copies and individually numbered) on the revitalised too pure label (who first brought pj harvey, stereolab, seefeel, mouse on mars and mclusky to the public domain). named after a novel by cuban writer cabrera infante, three trapped tigers already have a five-track ep under their belts, produced by legendary strokes producer gordon raphael. released late last year via blood and biscuits, 'ep' eschewed traditional song titles in favour of numbers and covered everything from jazz, math-rock, glitchy electronica right through to improv-prog rock. it garnered widespread acclaim and coupled with their incendiary live shows, three trapped tigers have become many tastemakers' bands to look out for in 2009. the band recently returned to the studio to record the follow-up to ep and '7' is the one of the first tracks to be taken from that session. taking inspiration from their first recording, the band have upped their game, extended themselves in every direction and produced their most synth-led and guitar-heavy track to date. guitarist matt calvert produced '7', providing them the luxury to develop the song at their own pace and it really shows. the sound is fuller, harder, more glorious and beautiful. opening ep track '1' serves as the b-side and the contrast between the two songs illustrates just how far three trapped tigers have progressed in a relatively short space of time.
