rough trade is the only shop you will find the single disc version in. it's always nice to see pop visionaries link up with one another. earlier this year, crafty dance-pop vets saint etienne reissued 'foxbase alpha', their gorgeously plasticy 1991 debut. but they aren't done with 'foxbase alpha' yet. the group recruited annie / mia producer and conceptual-pop kindred spirit richard x (who produced this year's 'method of modern love') to remix the entire album, turning it into a brand new beast called 'foxbase beta'. for the album revamp, richard x used the original 'foxbase alpha' masters but added whatever he felt like adding. here's what saint etienne member bob stanley had to say about beta: "he has created something really special - spruced-up yet reverential, it is essentially a 2009 up-date of 'foxbase alpha', given a shot of vodka and a loving caress. we're chuffed. it feels unnervingly like jumping into a tardis."
