Bernard Parmegiani

Bernard Parmegiani (1927-2013) was a renowned composer known for his pioneering work in electronic and acousmatic music. Starting as a sound engineer for French television, he joined the "Groupe de recherches musicales" (GRM) in 1959 and created his first major composition, Violostries, in 1962. Parmegiani collaborated with various film directors and expanded into video-art during his residency at West Deutscher Rundfunk. He also ventured into live performance, collaborating with jazz artists and performing with The Third Ear Band. Throughout his career, Parmegiani composed music for stage, screen, radio, and television but remained focused on electroacoustic music.

His compositions were designed to be played back on the acousmonium broadcasting system developed by GRM. Parmegiani's works have influenced a generation of composers and musicians worldwide.
