Black Grape

Black Grape was formed in 1993 by vocalist/bandleader Shaun Ryder and dancer Bez of Happy Mondays. They added Kermit and Ged Lynch from Ruthless Rap Assassins, as well as guitarist Paul Wagstaff from Paris Angels. The sound was brought together by producer Danny Saber from Los Angeles. Black Grape's music fused the drugged-out baggy attitude of the Happy Mondays with a denser, brighter electronic and hip hop production style. Their debut album was described as "the party Prince was describing in the song '1999'."
