Coleman Hawkins

Coleman Hawkins, also known as Bean or Hawk, was an American jazz tenor saxophonist. Born on November 21, 1904 in St. Joseph, Missouri, he showed musical talent from a young age and began piano lessons at the age of five. At seven years old, he switched to the cello before ultimately finding his passion for the tenor saxophone at nine. By the remarkable age of twelve, Coleman turned professional.

Throughout his career, Coleman Hawkins collaborated with renowned artists such as *Fletcher Henderson*, *Benny Carter*, *Duke Ellington*, *Count Basie*, and *Thelonious Monk*. In August 1923, he made his first recordings which marked the beginning of a legendary journey in jazz music.

Coleman Hawkins' powerful and innovative playing style revolutionized the world of jazz. His influence can be heard in the works of other notable artists such as Dexter Gordon, Ben Webster, Johnny Hodges, Art Tatum, and many more.
