Die Antwoord

Die Antwoord (Afrikaans: "The Answer") is a hip-hop act from Cape Town, South Africa consisting of three members, Ninja, Yo-Landi Vi$$er and DJ Hi-Tek. Die Antwoord lead vocalist Ninja, also known as Watkin Tudor Jones, has been a prominent figure in the South African hip-hop scene for many years. He has fronted various acts such as Max Normal and Fucknrad, adopting different stage personas along the way.

In 2009, Die Antwoord was formed with performers Ninja, Yo-Landi Vi$$er, and DJ Hi-Tek. They gained widespread attention with their debut album $O$, which was initially released as a free download on their official website. The music video for their single "Enter the Ninja," directed by Rob Malpage and co-directed by Ninja himself, became an internet sensation months later. The overwhelming traffic it generated led to their original website provider shutting down their account.

Their unique style of music, known as "Zef" music in Afrikaans slang (loosely translating to the American equivalent of "Redneck"), features lyrics performed in both Afrikaans and English. Die Antwoord's sound has drawn comparisons to artists like M.I.A., Kreayshawn, Grimes, and Crystal Castles among others.
