Duke Ellington

Duke Ellington was an influential American jazz pianist, bandleader, and composer. He is known for his residency at the Cotton Club from 1927 to 1931 and for composing over a thousand pieces, many of which have become standards in the genre. He frequently collaborated with Billy Strayhorn. Duke Ellington's son, Mercer Ellington, took over leadership of his father's orchestra until his own death in 1996. He is also the grandfather of Edward Ellington.
