Glenn Branca

Glenn Branca (October 6, 1948 - May 13th, 2018) was an American composer known for his groundbreaking compositions in the eighties. He studied performing arts at Emerson College in Boston and went on to form two bands - Theoretical Girls and The Static. Branca's signature style involved multiple heavily amplified guitars, a rock-based rhythm section, and occasionally other instruments like keyboards. His minimalist compositions often required unique guitar tunings.

In the eighties, Branca gained recognition for his symphonies composed for the Glenn Branca Ensemble. These symphonies showcased his innovative use of four or more guitars along with drums and bass. As he progressed as a composer, Branca incorporated additional instruments such as mallet guitar and occasionally a second drummer into his works.

With a background in performing arts and a passion for experimentation, Glenn Branca left an indelible mark on the music world through his distinctive compositions that pushed boundaries and challenged traditional notions of sound.
