Holger Czukay

Holger Czukay was a German musician known for his influential work as a member of the rock group Can. Born on March 24th, 1938 in Gdansk, Poland, he studied under Karlheinz Stockhausen from 1963–1966 before co-founding Can in 1968. In addition to playing bass guitar for the band, Czukay also took charge of most of their recording and engineering. He was recognized for his early ambient albums and his innovative use of radio sounds and sampling.

Czukay's musical contributions extended beyond his work with Can. He recorded several solo albums that showcased his talent and creativity. His unique style influenced artists such as Cluster, Harmonia, Moebius, Michael Rother, Popol Vuh, Amon DĂĽĂĽl II, Ashra, Roedelius, Faust, Guru Guru, Agitation Free and many others.

Tragically, Holger Czukay passed away on September 5th, 2017 at the age of 79 in Weilerswist near Cologne Germany. His legacy lives on through his groundbreaking music and lasting impact on the world of experimental rock.
