Jd Souther

John David Souther is an American singer-songwriter, actor, and multi-instrumentalist. He was born on November 2, 1945 in Detroit, Michigan. Souther gained recognition for his country rock performances and his songwriting abilities. He is best known for co-writing hit songs for artists like Linda Ronstadt and the Eagles. Souther's influences include Roy Orbison, whose sound he tried to emulate. In the late 1960s, he met Glenn Frey in Los Angeles and they formed a folk duo called Longbranch Pennywhistle. Souther has also released solo albums and collaborated with other musicians throughout his career.

Souther's songwriting talents led to him being inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2013. He co-wrote some of the Eagles' biggest hits including "Best of My Love," "Heartache Tonight," and "New Kid in Town." He also produced Linda Ronstadt's album "Don't Cry Now" and wrote songs for her multi-platinum albums such as "Faithless Love" from "Heart Like a Wheel." Souther recorded notable duets with Ronstadt including "Hasten Down the Wind" and "Prisoner in Disguise." As a solo artist, his biggest hit was the song "You're Only Lonely."
