Joe Gibbs

Joe Gibbs was a highly influential and prolific reggae producer, born in 1943 in Montego Bay, Jamaica. He grew up in the resort town of Montego Bay before moving to Kingston in the early sixties. In 1966, he opened his first shop on Beeston street where he sold and repaired radio and television sets. As an electronics expert, Joe Gibbs soon expanded into selling records as well.

In 1968, Joe Gibbs built his first recording studio in the Duhaney Park area of Kingston. This two-track studio was modeled after the renowned Federal Records studio and marked his entry into music production. Throughout his career, Joe Gibbs collaborated with notable engineers such as Lee Perry and Winston 'Niney' Holness before forming a long-term partnership with engineer Errol Thompson known as The Mighty Two.

Joe Gibbs's recordings often featured backing from his studio band called *The Professionals*, which included talented musicians like Sly Dunbar, Robbie Shakespeare, and Earl "Chinna" Smith. His work had a significant impact on the reggae genre and continues to inspire artists today.
