Justin Hinds

Justin Hinds was one of the pioneers of ska and rocksteady. Alongside his long-time friends Dennis Sinclair and Junior Dixon, they were arguably the most successful group for producer Duke Reid during that period. Drawing inspiration from the Bible and Jamaican proverbs, their music included well-known ska tunes such as King Samuel, The Higher The Monkey Climbs, Jump Out A Frying Pan, and Botheration.

However, it was during the rock steady era that Hinds achieved his greatest success. He recorded his signature tune, Carry Go Bring Come, in both ska and rock steady versions. Despite his passing on 16 March 2005 due to lung cancer, Hinds remained an active performer until then. He regularly toured North America and Europe, with interest in his music reinvigorated through appearances on various reggae compilations.

Born on 7 May 1942 in Steer Town, St Ann, Jamaica; Justin Hinds left behind a remarkable legacy as a talented artist who played a significant role in shaping the ska and rocksteady genres.
