The Supremes

Hugely successful female vocal group formed in 1961, The Supremes became Motown's top act of the 1960s. Their best-known lineup consisted of Diana Ross, Florence Ballard, and Mary Wilson. In 1967, they changed their name to Diana Ross & The Supremes and released a compilation album. After Ross left in 1970, Jean Terrell replaced her as lead singer and the group reverted back to The Supremes. Inducted into Rock And Roll Hall of Fame in 1988.

The Supremes started as The Primettes from 1959 to 1960 before changing their name. They achieved great success during the '60s with hits like "Baby Love" and "Stop! In the Name of Love." However, internal issues led to changes in the lineup over time.

After member Florence Ballard was replaced by Cindy Birdsong in June 1967 due to personal struggles, Diana Ross & The Supremes continued their success until January 1970 when Ross embarked on a solo career. Jean Terrell then took over as lead singer for The Supremes.
