David Bowie, born on 8 January 1947 in Brixton, London, England, UK and died on 10 January 2016 in Manhattan, New York City, USA at the age of 69. He was a British pop/rock singer, musician, songwriter, and actor. Bowie is widely regarded as one of the most respected contemporary musicians of his time and is considered to be one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century.Bowie's contributions to the music industry have made him a leading figure in popular culture. His innovative style and unique sound have left an indelible mark on generations of artists and fans alike. With his extensive discography spanning various genres and his iconic alter egos such as Ziggy Stardust and The Thin White Duke, Bowie's artistic vision continues to inspire and captivate audiences worldwide.

Rhino Records, also known as Rhino, is a renowned music label that was established in 1973 by Richard Foos. Starting as a record store in Westwood California, Rhino quickly gained recognition with its first successful release "Go To Rhino Records" by Wild Man Fischer in 1975. The label's early logo featured "Rocky the Rhino" and focused on novelty, surf, local new wave bands, and reissues of out-of-print records from other labels.

Under the guidance of Bill Inglot for production, Ken Perry for mastering, and A&R team Gary Stewart and James Austin, Rhino expanded its catalog to include a wide range of reissues by the mid-1980s. The label underwent a logo redesign during this time period to simply "Rhino". In 1984, Rhino released its first CD and became known for manufacturing high-quality CDs made by Sanyo (1984-85) and various manufacturers from Japan or Switzerland thereafter.

In 1985, Rhino entered into a distribution deal with Capitol Records which lasted until 1992. This partnership allowed access to Capitol's back catalog and led to the release of reissues of old Capitol albums. Additionally, EMI and Rhino acquired the Roulette family of labels in 1989. As their deal with Capitol came to an end in 1992, Time-Warner offered an opportunity for growth. Half of the label was sold to Time-Warner

Today marks the 50th anniversary of the release of David Bowie's groundbreaking single "REBEL REBEL". It appeared in a remixed form on Bowie's eighth and most musically adventurous album of the early 1970s, DIAMOND DOGS.

On May 24, 2024, exactly on the day of the Golden Anniversary, DIAMOND DOGS will be released as a limited anniversary LP with half-speed mastering and as a picture disc LP pressed from the same master. The album's first single, the aforementioned "REBEL REBEL", reached No. 5 in the UK, and the album also reached similar heights on both sides of the Atlantic, reaching No. 1 in the UK and No. 5 in the US.

The album's creation was influenced by Bowie's inability to secure the rights to a theatrical production of George Orwell's 1984, as well as the work of William S. Burroughs, whom Bowie had interviewed for Rolling Stone in November 1973 . The album's songs created an urban, apocalyptic scenario, with Bowie appearing on the cover as a controversial half-human-dog hybrid, painted by Belgian artist Guy Peellaert from photos by world-renowned photographer Terry O'Neill. Since its release, DIAMOND DOGS tracks have been covered by artists such as Beck, Tina Turner, Duran Duran, Def Leppard, Joan As Police Woman, Dead Or Alive and The Struts.

To promote the album, Bowie undertook his most theatrical and lavish tour to date, filmed for the infamous BBC program Cracked Actor and the classic DAVID LIVE album. Despite written promises to fans that the tour would reach the United Kingdom, it never took place. For the second leg of the US tour, Bowie scaled back the show and began taking his material in a more soulful direction, which would come to full fruition with the release of his next album, YOUNG AMERICANS.

This new pressing of DIAMOND DOGS was cut from the restored 192kHz masters of the original master tapes on a custom-built Neumann VMS80 lathe with completely redesigned electronics, with no additional processing during transfer. Half Speed was edited by John Webber at AIR Studios.
