The album was the first by the band for some years and was the reforming of the group who had enjoyed hit singles and albums in the early part of the 70s. Produced by Gus Dudgeon, 'Back and Fourth' featured the hit single "Run for Home" written by Alan Hull and marked a return to form for the Newcastle group.

This Esoteric Recordings reissue is remastered, includes two bonus tracks, and a booklet that fully restores all original album artwork and features a new essay.
