The Numero Group is a Chicago-based record label, dedicated to the preservation and celebration of lesser-known artists. Their exploration spans the globe and reaches deep into the recesses of music history to&nbsp;create compilations of previously released music, reissues of original albums, and creation of album reconstructions from a variety of musical genres.

The label's focus since its 2003 founding has been to research and preserve obscure recorded material and ephemera by artists and entrepreneurs who found little commercial success upon their material's initial release.

Recorded in 1971 by a 27-year-old pastor and an after school program choir, <i>Like A Ship</i> is a stirring and powerful meditation on the wayward aftermath of the Civil Rights Movement. Tracked with the help of Chess / Cadet maestros Gene Barge, Phil Upchurch, and Richard Evans, the album is a mix of euphoric gospel and Mayfield esque political soul, with sleigh bells, hand claps, and jazzy piano stabs. Sampled by T.I., Kanye, and Khaled, Barrett created a rapturous, crossover gospel classic that’s still wildly relevant.
