William DeVaughn is an American singer, songwriter, and keyboardist born in Washington, D.C. in 1947. He gained recognition with his 1974 hit single "Be Thankful for What You Got", which reached the top ten on the Billboard R&B chart and the top thirty on the Billboard Hot 100.
DeVaughn began his music career in the 1960s, playing in local D.C. bands and working as a staff writer for various record labels. Alongside his successful single, he released another album in 1980. Although not achieving the same level of commercial success as his hit single, DeVaughn's music remains popular among fans of soul, funk, and R&B.
