Berlin Atonal

The history of Berlin Atonal began in November 1982 at SO36 in Kreuzberg. The festival quickly became a hub for groundbreaking musical experiences, featuring innovative artists such as Einstürzende Neubauten, Sprung aus den Wolken, Malaria, Notorische Reflexe, Alu, White Russia, Didaktische Einheit and many others who pushed the boundaries of sonic expression.

Throughout the 1980s, Berlin Atonal played a pivotal role in shaping the progressive electronic and experimental music scenes in Berlin. However, with the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1990, the festival came to an end as its founder Dimitri Hegemann went on to open the legendary techno club Tresor.

In 2013, under new direction from von Oswald, Glass and Reachi, Berlin Atonal made a triumphant return to its birthplace. It found its new permanent home at Kraftwerk Berlin – an immense unused powerplant located right in the heart of the city. Since then,Berlin Atonal has continued to showcase cutting-edge electronic music and art from around the world.
