Republic is a New York City-based American record label that was founded in 1995 by Avery Lipman and Monte Lipman. Originally an independent label, it was acquired by Universal Music Group (UMG) in 2000. Initially operating as an imprint of The Universal/Motown Records Group, the label underwent a reorganization in 2006 and became known as Universal Republic Records. This merger with Universal Records lasted until 2012 when the label reverted back to its original name. With a rich history and strong ties to UMG, Republic has become a prominent player in the music industry.
