Shanachie

Shanachie

Shanachie Records, founded in 1972 by Richard Nevins and Dan Collins, is one of the largest independent record labels in the world. Initially focusing on fiddle music, Shanachie released albums by renowned Celtic groups like Planxty, Clannad, and The Chieftains. Over time, they expanded their repertoire to include Latin American, African music, soul, country, reggae, ska genres. In 1989, Shanachie acquired Yazoo Records from Nick Perls and began releasing vintage jazz and blues recordings. The label's name derives from the Irish word "seanchaí," meaning storyteller. Notably, the Grammy-award winning Soweto Gospel Choir also releases albums on Shanachie Records.

The early label design was created by Bill Smith in 1975.

Currently distributed by E1 Music (LC 5762 / LC 05762), Shanachie Records continues to captivate audiences with its diverse range of musical offerings.
