Tangerine Records

Tangerine Records, also known as TRC or Tangerine Record Corp., was a record label owned by Ray Charles from 1962 to 1973. Originally acquired as part of his contractual agreement with ABC Records, Tangerine Records released music and productions by Ray Charles and his collaborators. In 1973, Charles left ABC but retained the rights to all of his recordings. To explore new musical directions beyond soul, blues, and jazz, he transformed [l51052] into Tangerine Records with the help of Chief Engineer [a613430]. The label also featured talented artists such as *Jimmy Scott*, *Al Grey*, Percy Mayfield, The Raelettes, and an Ike & Tina Turner collaboration.

Distributed initially by ABC-Paramount Records, Inc. and later by ABC Records, Inc., Tangerine Records became synonymous with quality music that pushed boundaries. With Charles at the helm, the label aimed to diversify its sound while maintaining a high level of artistry.

Today, Tangerine Records remains a testament to Ray Charles' vision for innovation in music. Its catalog showcases the talent and creativity of both established artists and emerging musicians who were given a platform to express themselves under Charles' guidance.
