Wrasse

Wrasse Records, operated by Wrasse Records Ltd., was founded in September 1998 by Ian Ashbridge and Joanna Ashbridge. Ian, formerly Head Buyer at HMV and Marketing Director of A&M (UK), joined forces with Joanna, formerly Marketing Manager at Line One. The label's first signing was Ladysmith Black Mambazo.

Wrasse Records collaborates closely with artists, management, and record companies to produce albums that resonate with listeners. While the label predominantly focuses on African-based music, it also signs music that the staff personally enjoys.

In 2005, Universal Music licensed all their world music to Wrasse for distribution in the UK and USA. This partnership allowed Universal Music to avoid handling those genres in these territories.
