Björk Guðmundsdóttir, known by her stage name Björk, is an Icelandic singer, songwriter, musician and producer. She began her recording career at the age of 11 and gained worldwide prominence as one of the lead vocalists of the avant-pop Icelandic sextet The Sugarcubes. In 1992, she launched a solo career and quickly became one of the '90s most unlikely stars with her album Debut. Björk is well recognized in both pop and experimental music worlds and has worked with renowned artists such as Mark Bell of LFO and Michel Gondry.

Throughout her career, Björk has developed unconventional song structures and collaborated with various electronic music artists. She has also worked as a producer, receiving recognition for her innovation in production. Her album Vespertine was named album of the year by The Wire Magazine in 2001. With more than 20 awards in Europe and 15 nominations in the US, Björk's unique style continues to captivate audiences around the world.

In addition to her musical achievements, Björk has had significant personal relationships throughout her life. She was briefly married to guitarist Þór Eldon while forming The Sugarcubes and they have a son together. From 2000 to 2013, she was partnered with Matthew Barney and they have a daughter together.

One Little Independent Records, or OLI Records, is an independent music label that was founded in 1986 by members of anarchist punk band Crass. After Debut's success, the pressure was on Björk to surpass that album's creative, tantalizing electronic pop. She more than delivered with 1995's Post; from the menacing, industrial-tinged opener, Army of Me, it's clear that this album is not simply Debut redux. The songs' production and arrangements - especially those of the epic, modern fairy tale Isobel - all aim for, and accomplish, more. Post also features Debut producer Nellee Hooper, 808 State's Graham Massey, Howie B, and Tricky, who help Bjork incorporate a spectrum of electronic and orchestral styles into songs like Hyperballad, which sounds like a love song penned by Aphex Twin.
