This CD is a cosmic companion to the album that gazes skyward, taking a closer look at its astral side. I took so much pleasure in revisiting the sounds, textures and voices that make up the record, and what came from that process is a collage that rearranges elemental album moments with fragments from the cutting room floor to expand on the definitive versions of the songs. I wanted to share some of the intimacy I experienced through the recording process, including Hailey's outtakes, Molly Lewis' unabridged recording from a hotel room in Paris, studio experiments with Meg Duffy, a phone call with a wildlife rehabilitator, and an extended summer walk through New York to accompany a live take of my favorite standard, "Stardust," recorded late at night at Figure 8 in Brooklyn with some of my dearest friends.
