Depeche Mode is an English electronic music band formed in 1980. The group gained popularity with their debut album "Speak & Spell" in 1981 and went on to release groundbreaking albums like "Construction Time Again" and "Some Great Reward." With hits such as "Enjoy the Silence" and "Personal Jesus," they became a dominant force in mainstream electronic music. Despite facing internal tensions, the band continued to create music, releasing successful albums like "Violator" and "Songs of Faith and Devotion." Depeche Mode has sold over 100 million records worldwide, solidifying their status as one of the most commercially successful electronic bands.

The current lineup consists of Martin L. Gore on keyboards, guitar, and vocals, along with lead vocalist Dave Gahan. Former members include Vince Clarke (1980-81), Alan Wilder (1982-95), who contributed keyboards, drums, and backing vocals, and Andrew Fletcher (1980-2022) on keyboards.

Founded in 1978 by [a=Daniel Miller], Mute (also known as [l36339]) releases various forms of music, with an emphasis on electronic and experimental pop. In May 2002 the label was acquired by the [l=EMI Group]. In 2010 Miller did an agreement with EMI to handle Mute as an independent label again, licensing the trademark from EMI via his company [l=Mute Artists Ltd.], but EMI kept the rights over Mute's back catalogue. After the EMI Group was dissolved, in 2012 [l206061] acquired [l636]'s back catalogue.

Branch offices exist in Germany ([l168349]) and in North America ([l36296]). 

Mute has spawned many regional and special-interest sublabels, some of which are still active. One offshoot, [l=Parallel Series], even became independent of [l636] Mute also operates Mute Bank Mail Order, which sells the label's merchandise directly to consumers. Mute Bank published two issues of [i]Mute Statement[/i], a softcover book that details the entire discography of the label and includes band profiles and photos of release artwork.

Spirit | The 12" Singles, a collector's edition deluxe box set,
contains seven 12" vinyl discs including custom replicas of the
original three double 12" singles from Spirit (Depeche Mode's
14th studio album): Where's the Revolution (originally
released 3 February 2017, in advance of the album), Going
Backwards (released 23 June 2017), and Cover Me (released 6
October 2017).

As a bonus for Depeche Mode fans, Spirit | The 12" Singles
premieres a special seventh disc: the first-ever 12" vinyl
pressing of the band's legendary Highline Sessions, recorded
live in New York City on 3 August 2016. The most complete
recording of Depeche Mode's Highline Sessions ever released
in any format, this five-song 12" vinyl single includes DM's
galvanizing cover of David Bowie's "Heroes" (celebrating the
anthem's 2017 40th anniversary) and two previously
unreleased performances of songs from Spirit: So Much Love
and Poison Heart.
