In this book Jim Bob attempts to explain where songs come from, how they got here, and maybe even why. The book contains the lyrics to 150 Jim Bob and Carter songs, including ‘Sheriff Fatman’, ‘Twenty Four Minutes From Tulse Hill’, ‘Shoppers’ Paradise’, ‘Jo’s Got Papercuts’ and ‘Thanks For Reaching Out’, as well as previously unseen images from what Jim Bob has described as his ‘private collection’.

‘Where Songs Come From’ is as much a revealing autobiography as it is a lyric book. With inspired musings on a vast array of subjects, and a fascinating personal account of Jim Bob’s history told via his songs. It could equally have been titled

Jim Bob is best known as the singer with Carter The Unstoppable Sex Machine. With Carter he toured the world, had 14 Top 40 singles and four Top Ten albums (including a number one) and headlined Glastonbury. Since the break-up(s) of Carter, Jim Bob has released 12 solo albums, written songs for Ian Dury, for a pantomime at the London Barbican, and appeared in a musical at the Edinburgh Festival. Jim Bob’s recent trilogy of lockdown and post-lockdown albums have seen him back in the pop charts. A second Glastonbury headline spot is only a question of time.
