Ozit is an independent UK label that was formed in 1996 by Chris Hewitt and Dave Edwards. It incorporates Roach Records, Ozit Records, and the American label Morpheus Records. The label specializes in releasing rarities of artists from the 1960s to 1980s, although the legality of some releases, particularly those related to Joy Division, is disputed.
With its origins in Northwich, Cheshire, Ozit has established itself as a prominent player in the music industry. Additionally, it acquired Morpheus Records from Darl Morgan based in America.
Ozit focuses on unearthing rare gems from artists spanning three decades - the 1960s to 1980s. Martin Hannett was the legendary Manchester record producer who created the ground breaking punk and post punk production sounds for bands including Joy Division, early New Order, Buzzcocks, early U2, John Cooper Clarke, Magazine, The Stone Roses and Happy Mondays. An electronic echo and synth pioneer Martin Hannett was fascinated from being a child with Dr Who, science fiction, the BBC Radiophonic Workshop and electronic music pioneer Delia Derbyshire who was one of the innovators at the Radiophonic Workshop. In September 1982 Martin Hannett put together some tapes at Strawberry Studios of his synth and electronic music recordings and named the project his Homage to Delia Derbyshire. Now most of this material is released to the world for the first time, hear Hannett’s 18 tracks of electronic music- Hannett simply called the tracks Homage to Delia Derbyshire tracks 1 to 18.
