IDLES - Joy as an Act of Resistance

Rough Trade Exclusive Orange Vinyl with Bonus CD

Bristol's finest Kings of exquisitely noisy post-punk have plenty of targets in their cross-hairs and they aren't afraid to pull the trigger. Their second album in so many years is lead-man Joe Talbot's sharp take on modern Britain, tackling everything from nationalism to feminism, homophobia to xenophobia, mental health to inherent wealth and toxic masculinity to toxic drugs. But politics and social-commentary is only one facet to IDLES. Their rowdy tunes of hollering and gut-wrenching searing viscerality crowd the speakers for dancefloor decimating space. Building from an ominous growl to a full on howl of exuberant explosively emotive power, this is a finely honed selection of powerful anthems on full tilt.

The Bristolians Joe Talbot, Mark Bowen, Lee Kieran, Adam Devonshire and Jon Beavis employ Space to produce and duo Adam Greenspan and Nick Launay to mix (Arcade Fire/Kate Bush/Yeah Yeah Yeahs).

An age-defining post-Brexit album that cements IDLES as one of the most important bands around. It is recommended listening for everyone in Britain right now, but especially for fans of political post-punk bands Gang of Four, The Fall and Shame, noise rockers Pissed Jeans and Future of the Left as well as anyone who voted remain.
