Capitol Records, founded in 1942 as Liberty Records, is a legendary music label based in Hollywood, California. With a rich history spanning over seven decades, Capitol has established itself as one of the Big Six studios and has sold millions of records worldwide. In 1955, the label was acquired by British company EMI and became part of their Worldwide division. Later on, Capitol merged with Priority Records to further expand its reach.
EMI began releasing Capitol product in the UK, Europe, and Australasia in 1956 after licenses with other record companies expired. Over the years, Capitol Records has been home to numerous iconic artists and bands who have shaped the music industry.
