Madness are an English ska band from Camden Town, London, that formed in 1976. They were one of the most prominent bands of the late 1970s and early 1980s 2 Tone ska revival. With their most recognized line-up of seven members, they continue to perform and have achieved great success throughout their career.

Madness reached the peak of their success in the early to mid-1980s. Alongside UB40, they spent a remarkable 214 weeks on the UK singles charts during that decade. This record held for the most weeks spent by a group in the 1980s UK singles charts. Notably, Madness accomplished this feat within a shorter time period from 1980 to 1986.

In 1988, some members embarked on individual projects but eventually reunited with Madness to continue creating their unique brand of ska music.

One Step Beyond was Madness’ seminal debut album, recorded in just 3 weeks and originally released in October 1979. It peaked at number 2 in the UK and took up residency in the UK Album Chart, where it stayed for more than a year. The album – one of the most important in the 2Tone ska revival of the late ‘70s and early ‘80s - received much critical praise and includes the classic hit singles 'One Step Beyond...', 'My Girl', 'Night Boat To Cairo' and ‘The Prince’.&nbsp;
