Product description
Magick Knives emerged, as if summoned, from the spectral sands of the Sonoran Desert. More than a band, they are conjurors of sound casting cinematic spells woven from desert dust, post-punk pulse, and gothic devotion. Their debut self-titled album, from Library of the Occult Records, offers 10 mesmerizing tracks that flicker like séance candles: hypnotic, pulsing, filled with some sort of unspeakable intent.
Formed by vocalist/bassist Sonia Campbell with visual artist and guitarist/synth wizard Daniel Martin Diaz (Trees Speak), the project began with a chance encounter and a shared instinct to make something special. Joined by lead guitarist Daniel Singleton and drummer Daniel Thomas, the quartet quickly found its alchemy. Each track is a collective creation, with all four members contributing to the music while Campbell undertakes the lyrical rites.
At once brooding and transportive, their sound draws from a haunted lineage: Bauhaus, Sisters of Mercy, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Dead Can Dance. Guitars bleed in waves of reverb, synths drone, and rhythms pound. Above it all, Campbell’s vocals beckon like that of a dark siren.
Their debut album, mixed by TJ Allen (Bat For Lashes, Portishead) and mastered by Grammy-winner Shawn Joseph (J Dilla, Phantogram), offers songs that are fog-like in texture, fire-lit in tone, and bound by an exquisite tension. Lyrically, the band explores themes of memory, myth, grief, and transformation.
Magick Knives’ presence evokes the arcane, with a visual presentation that complements their sonic identity. Their imagery often features dark, mystical elements, aligning with their gothic musical themes. This cohesive aesthetic enhances the band's storytelling, inviting listeners into a world where music and visuals intertwine seamlessly. Performances are designed less as concerts and more as atmospheres.
Their music is for those who dance in the liminal, and for anyone who understands that sharpness is a kind of beauty.
