Product description
Quadrature is a musical powerhouse that redefines sonic frontiers with their electric blend of raga, rock, jazz and psychedelia. Rooted in deep musical traditions, yet soaring into uncharted territories, the band crafts soundscapes that defy laws of genre, space and time. They feature the magnetic sitar/effects of Neel Murgai, the experimental Firebird trumpet/effects of Indofunk Satish, the structural rhythm of Tripp Dudley on drum set, and the electric grooves of Damon Banks on bass. From cosmic explorations to playful raga twists, Quadrature’s debut album Black Hole Blues warps raga, rock, jazz, space and time to create a psychedelic ride through a reinvention of traditions. The album combines new and old original material from the band’s members. “Charukeshi Constant” draws on the classical roots of the Maihar Gharana, while “Metagalactic Space" reimagines Raga Bairagi through the lens of Terry Riley’s minimalist magic (and Brooklyn Raga Massive’s “In D”). Things get rowdy with “Spaghetti Eastern" , as a funky, raga-slinging cowboy theme turns into a rock anthem, and “Morning Time” keeps us guessing (is it morning, mourning, or mo[u]rning?) as night ragas Desh and Darbari sneak into the daylight. The spiritual fire of “Mother Durga” brings flavours of Raga Madhuvanti and lights the way, while “Black Hole Blues”, the only vocal tune on the album, bends space, time and gravity itself.
Black Hole Blues is a poetic take on Einstein’s general relativity, where the gravity of the moment slows time down and listeners are invited to use sound, music and focused attention to slow down time for themselves in moments of need.
