Lee brilleaux book packshot

Wilko Johnson joins the book’s author Zoë Howe and Daryl Easlea for the launch of the new edition of the much-loved biography of the late, great ‘wolfman’ of Thames Delta R&B.

Zoë Howe, Wilko Johnson – Brilleaux’s legendary sparring partner in Dr Feelgood – and fellow Thames Estuary-dweller, raconteur and music writer Daryl Easlea present a rip-roaring in-conversation event around the acclaimed music book Lee Brilleaux – Rock ‘n’ Roll Gentleman. An entertaining evening is assured, incorporating anecdotes, readings and a book signing.

Brilleaux, the uniquely charismatic star of Essex’s R&B reprobates Dr Feelgood, was one of rock ‘n’ roll’s greatest frontmen. But he was also one of its greatest gentlemen – a class act with heart, fire, wanderlust and a wild streak. Exploding out of Canvey Island in the early 1970s, the Feelgoods, with Brilleaux and Wilko Johnson at the helm, charged into London, grabbed the pub rock scene by the throat and sparked a revolutionary new era, proving you didn’t have to be middle class, wear the right clothes or live in the ‘right place’ to succeed.
Howe’s exhilarating compendium of exclusive interviews, memories and previously unseen images is more than a biography, it is a manual (with its tongue firmly in its cheek) for those wishing to learn the ways of the ultimate rock ‘n’ roll gentleman.

Praise for Lee Brilleaux – Rock ‘n’ Roll Gentleman:

'A wonderful, rollicking account. Sensitively written, full of ripping yarns from those who were there, the tale of a driven man with charisma to burn and demons to wrestle.'

- Christopher Somerville (The Daily Telegraph / Guardian)

‘A genuinely excellent book, of which Lee would've been proud.’

John Denton (pianist, former Solid Sender and good friend of Brilleaux’s)

‘Vivid, entertaining and overdue’.
