Challenge Records

Challenge Records is a US record label that was founded in 1957 by Gene Autry and a group of investors. Initially, Autry wanted to name the label "Champion Records" after his famous horse, but the name was already taken. Instead, they chose the name Challenge as a way to challenge other established labels. The label gained recognition for artists such as The Champs, The Knickerbockers, Wynn Stewart, and Micky Dolenz. Notable songwriter Gary Usher also released songs under different names through Challenge Records.

The label started in March 1957 when Autry sold his majority share to Joe Johnson and Johnny Thompson. Throughout its history, Challenge Records has been known for its innovative approach to music and its commitment to supporting talented artists.
