Conflict

Conflict is an anarcho-punk band formed in 1980, originally based around Eltham in South London. They are known for their outspokenness on issues such as anarchism, animal rights, the anti-war movement, and their support for the organization Class War. Their gigs during the 1980s often resulted in riots and disturbances due to their provocative nature.

In 1983, Conflict established their own record labels, *Mortarhate* and *Decadent*. Steve Ignorant, a former member of Crass, joined Conflict as a guest vocalist on their pro-animal rights single "To A Nation of Animal Lovers". After Crass disbanded, Ignorant became a semi-permanent second vocalist for Conflict following a memorable gig in Brixton where he performed with the band.

The band's iconic *Mortarhate* logo was designed by 'Nihilistic Nobody' and incorporates references to CND (Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament), anarchy and autonomy with two 'A's', and nihilism with an 'N'. This logo first appeared in Thanatos, a pamphlet produced by Mike Diboll from Toxic Graffity fanzine around 1980.
