Horace Silver

Horace Silver was an American jazz pianist, composer, and bandleader. He was born on September 2, 1928, in Norwalk, Connecticut, USA and passed away on June 18, 2014 (at the age of 85) in New Rochelle, New York. Silver was a pioneer of the hard bop style of jazz during the 1950s and 1960s. He began his career by backing Stan Getz in Hartford before moving to New York City. Silver made his recording debut for Blue Note in 1952 and later formed a cooperative with Art Blakey. In the late '70s, he founded his own label called Silveto Records. Despite health problems in the '90s and being diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease in 2007, Silver continued to make music until his final studio recording for Verve in 1998.
