John Powell

John Powell is a British soundtrack composer, born on 18 September 1963 in London, England, UK. He is an accomplished violinist, violist, and guitarist who studied composition at Trinity College of Music in London. During his time there, he received the John Halford and Boosey and Hawkes Bursary Music College Prizes.

In 1988, Powell began composing music for commercials and gradually transitioned to independent films, feature films, and television. He moved to Los Angeles in late 1995 and worked with Hans Zimmer for seven years (1995-2002), as well as individually in 2008 and 2011. Since then, he has worked on numerous soundtracks for US film productions and currently resides in Marina Del Rey, California.
