Mahalia

Mahalia Jackson was an American gospel singer widely considered one of the most influential vocalists of the 20th century. Born on October 26, 1911 in New Orleans, Louisiana, she played a pivotal role in developing and spreading gospel blues in black churches across the United States. Despite facing racial segregation, Mahalia achieved unexpected success with her recording career, selling approximately 22 million records and performing for integrated audiences worldwide. She passed away on January 27, 1972 in Evergreen Park, Chicago. In recognition of her immense impact on music, she was posthumously inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame in 1997.
