The Shop Assistants were a Scottish indie pop band formed in 1983 in Edinburgh, United Kingdom. The band consisted of Alex Taylor on vocals, David Keegan on guitar, Sarah Kneale on bass and later vocals, Laura McPhail on drums, and Ann Donald also on drums.

During their active years from 1983 to 1990, the Shop Assistants gained recognition for their energetic live performances and catchy melodic tunes. They were known for their distinctive blend of jangly guitars and heartfelt lyrics that resonated with audiences.

Although they disbanded in 1990, the legacy of the Shop Assistants lives on through their influential contributions to the indie pop genre. Their music continues to inspire new generations of artists and fans alike.
