Sonny Sharrock

Sonny Sharrock was a pioneering American free-jazz guitarist who made significant contributions to the music scene in the '60s and early '70s. He collaborated with renowned artists such as Miles Davis, Pharoah Sanders, Roy Ayers, and Herbie Mann. Alongside his wife Linda Sharrock on vocals, he released three solo LPs in the early '70s before stepping away from music. In the early '80s, he returned to the spotlight after meeting Bill Laswell and joining *Material*. Later, he became part of the Free-Rock-Jazz-Noise quartet Last Exit. Throughout the '80s and '90s, Sharrock pushed boundaries by blending jazz, metal, and punk in various improvisation and noise ensembles.

Sharrock's discography includes numerous solo releases as well as collaborations with other artists. Notable among them is his highly acclaimed album *Ask The Ages* on Laswell’s Axiom Records featuring Pharoah Sanders once again. Additionally, he made guest appearances on records by Material, Machine Gun, Ginger Baker, Nicky Skopelitis, F. Robert Lloyd among others.

Born on August 27th 1940 in Ossining New York; Sonny Sharrock sadly passed away on May 25th 1994 in Ossining New York.
