Autopsy is a death metal band formed in San Francisco in 1987 by ex-Death drummer Chris Reifert, who also handles vocals. The band consists of guitarists Eric Cutler and Danny Coralles, and bassist Ken Sorvari. Autopsy gained recognition with their demo "Critical Madness" in 1988, leading to a record deal with Peaceville records. Their debut album "Severed Survival" was released two years later and featured bass tracks from Steve DiGiorgio of Sadus.

In 1991, Autopsy released two EPs, "Fiend for Blood" and "Retribution for the Dead," as well as an LP titled "Mental Funeral." Despite the release of their third full-length album "Acts of the Unspeakable," which included new bassist Josh Barohn (formerly of Suffocation), the band struggled to gain traction. However, this album became known for its disturbing cover art.

After a period of little activity, Autopsy returned in 1995 with the album "Shitfun," featuring yet another new bassist Freeway Migliore. Following its release, the band disbanded and pursued other projects. In 2001, they released the compilation album "Torn from the Grave."

Peaceville is an English label founded by Paul Halmshaw, also known as Hammy, in 1987. The label primarily focuses on metal music and has gained a reputation for its high-quality releases. In 2000, Peaceville was sold to Snapper Music but continues to thrive under their ownership.

Throughout its history, Peaceville has used various catalog number formats to distinguish different types of releases. From 1987 to 1995, the label used "VILE ### T" for 12-inch singles, maxis, and EPs; "VILE ###" for LPs; and "VILE ### P" for picture LPs. From 1987 to 2002, CD releases were labeled as "CDVILE### / VILE ### CD," while MCDs/singles/EPs were labeled as "CDMVILE### / VILE ### TCD." Limited CDs were marked with "CDXVILE###."

In later years, Peaceville introduced new catalog number formats such as "CC#" for the Collectors Club series of 7-inch records in 1993-1994. Re-issued CDs with slipcases from 1999 onwards are labeled as "CDVILEM###." Since 2002, CDs have been designated as "CDVILEF###," limited CDs as "CDVILEF###X," MCDs/singles/EPs as "CD

Live in Chicago - the band's first official live album - was recorded at Reggies Rock Club, March 7th 2020 and contains 66 minutes of classics spanning the whole 30+ year career of the death metal legends. The release also notably includes the brand-new track Maggots in the Mirror, giving fans something to chew on while the impending next studio release takes shape. Due to recent &amp; unforeseen global events, this stands as Autopsys only gig of 2020, out of what was intended to be a string of several appearances. Luckily, the show was professionally recorded, unknowing of what was about to follow. 

With mixing carried out by Adam Munoz, notable for his work on Autopsys studio albums, Live in Chicago captures Autopsy in all of their ferocious, gory glory, with artwork once again conjured from the masterfully warped mind of Wes Benscoter (Slayer, Nile, Kreator)
