This is the 10th album from Beans On Toast and is released on his traditional yearly date (it’s Xmas! It’s time for traditions!)

It was recorded at Church Studios, engineered by Riley MacIntrye and produced by Ben Lovett of Mumford And Sons. Guest musicians include drummer Chris Mass (Mumfords), Christof van der Ven on guitar and Ted Dwane on bass. This is slice-of-life punk poetry done folk style. Gritty stories of the world of today with it’s plastic pollution, social media overload and data collection. But also a softer side with many stories of Mr Bean’s new daughter and the hospital (Homerton!) where she was born. No swearing on this album! Perhaps it’s his daughter’s influence...rough hewn songs of love and life with words playing and dancing over simple folky guitar and swingy piano backing. Rough hewn earthy vocals. Tales of london / homerton hospital and its porters from basildon and swindon.

Over the course of his huge career Beans has become something of a cult national treasure. What seemed like a throwaway festival act has evolved into something much more important, a voice of truth and honesty, cutting through the bullshit. A consistent and reliable modern-day troubadour, not afraid to speak his mind; always touring, always writing, recording and releasing music. Playing every festival under the sun and always, always, telling it like it is. A Bird in the Hand is a celebration of love, life, family and the world in which we live.
