Oriental influenced debut album by the best new Indonesian indie band Bedchamber, one of the most promising bands from the vivid Indonesian indie-pop scene. The band formed in 2013 as the members Ratta Bill (Vocals, Guitar), Abi Chalabi (Guitar), Smita Kirana (Bass) and Ariel Kaspar (Drums) met at the same art exhibition in Jakarta. Not long after, they decided to rent a studio and jam every week. One year later, from these sessions, the band released its first recording called ‘Perennial EP’ on its own label Kolibri Rekords. The 5 track EP has quickly gained interest and popularity among the exciting Indonesian indie pop music scene with their very own take on surf and NYC influenced dream pop. The band then began to play local shows with a dynamic punk attidude.
With Geography, Bedchamber explores new musical territories, the album speaks about live shows, confusion or longing-love through more personal sounds like Ride with its strong post-punk bassline, oriental influenced guitar melodies and thick shoegaze sound by intertwining guitar lines, dreamy vocals and chinese-scaled synth.
With its discreet oriental influences and generational lyrics, Geography captures some of the hopes and expectactions from today’s Indonesian youth, “The Record juxtapoxes the cold and warmth of being one confused young adult” says Ratta Bill.
