Album artwork for Feathers by Dead Meadow

Feathers is the fifth album by the time Washington, D.C. based rock band Dead Meadow. It was released in 2005 by Matador Records on CD and LP now about to reissued by Xemu Records under license by Matador Records. This release is an exact copy of the original double vinyl and CD packages with original art and masters. In addition to the reissue this new product includes a "demo rarities CD' that is included additionally in both the CD and LP releases. This demo CD includes outtakes from the 22004 recording session as well as demos with different song structure / arrangements and even a couple tunes that were axed off the final album.

Dead Meadow play an unusual blend of flawless Hendrix / Sabbath riffage, dreamy psych, heavy undulating rhythms, dirty blues-rock, and environmental jams, with eerie high-pitched vocals. Miles beyond stoner rock gimmickry, this is a beautifully organic sound, played with alarming mastery. with the addition of 2nd guitarist Cory Shane and beautifully spacious production, Feathers opens up the Dead Meadow sound still further, seeming at once more experimental and more accessible than anything they've recorded thus far. The record captures the famous intensity of their live show, but songs like at her open door and stacys song reveal an obsessive beauty as jarring as sheer volume.
