Dead Oceans is a US label based in Bloomington, Indiana. Established in 2007 by Ben Swanson, Chris Swanson, Darius Van Arman, and Phil Waldorf, it is closely affiliated with Secretly Canadian and Jagjaguwar. This label has become the home for renowned artists such as Mitski, Kevin Morby, Phoebe Bridgers, Khruangbin, and Slowdive.
With its roots deeply intertwined with other successful labels like Secretly Canadian and Jagjaguwar, Dead Oceans has established itself as a prominent force in the music industry since its inception in 2007. Founded by Ben Swanson, Chris Swanson, Darius Van Arman, and Phil Waldorf alongside Austin-based collaborator Phil Waldorf; this label continues to nurture exceptional talent.
The roster of Dead Oceans boasts an impressive lineup of diverse musicians who have gained recognition worldwide. Artists such as Mitski with her emotionally charged songs, Kevin Morby's introspective melodies, Phoebe Bridgers' hauntingly beautiful tunes, the mesmerizing sounds of Khruangbin and the ethereal shoegaze revivalists Slowdive all call Dead Oceans their current musical home.

One of our favourite albums last year is finally getting wider distribution - emerging Indiana-based band Durand Jones and The Indications’ deluxe version of their acclaimed self-titled debut album via Dead Oceans / Colemine Records. The album, which was originally released in 2016, brings you fiery original soul music, pairing soaring vocal work with dusty drums, slinking guitars and screaming organs. With a stellar background in gospel, Jones got his start in the church, singing in the choir of his hometown in rural Louisiana. When his music career took him to Bloomington, Indiana, he was selected to join the legendary Indiana University Soul Revue, and it was through his involvement that he met writer / producer duo Aaron Frazer and Blake Rhein. The three began writing original soul music, recording themselves straight to tape in the basements of Bloomington- a process which brings you the gritty sounds available on Ohio-based Colemine Records. Sure to satisfy fans of Charles Bradley, Lee Fields, Aloe Blacc, and Leon Bridges.
