Gram Parsons was an American singer/songwriter, guitarist and pianist, born on November 5, 1946 in Winter Haven, Florida. He is best known for his work within the country genre and his creation of Cosmic American Music by blending blues, folk, and rock. Parsons recorded as a solo artist and also played with notable bands such as The International Submarine Band, The Byrds, and The Flying Burrito Brothers. Married to Gretchen Carpenter from 1971 until his untimely death at the age of 26 on September 19, 1973 in Joshua Tree, California due to an overdose of morphine and alcohol.

With a musical style that transcended traditional boundaries, Gram Parsons left a lasting impact on the music industry. His unique blend of genres created a sound that resonated with audiences worldwide. Alongside his successful solo career, he made significant contributions as a member of various renowned bands including The International Submarine Band, The Byrds, and The Flying Burrito Brothers. Rhino Records, also known as Rhino, is a renowned music label that was established in 1973 by Richard Foos. Starting as a record store in Westwood California, Rhino quickly gained recognition with its first successful release "Go To Rhino Records" by Wild Man Fischer in 1975. The label's early logo featured "Rocky the Rhino" and focused on novelty, surf, local new wave bands, and reissues of out-of-print records from other labels.

Under the guidance of Bill Inglot for production, Ken Perry for mastering, and A&R team Gary Stewart and James Austin, Rhino expanded its catalog to include a wide range of reissues by the mid-1980s. The label underwent a logo redesign during this time period to simply "Rhino". In 1984, Rhino released its first CD and became known for manufacturing high-quality CDs made by Sanyo (1984-85) and various manufacturers from Japan or Switzerland thereafter.

In 1985, Rhino entered into a distribution deal with Capitol Records which lasted until 1992. This partnership allowed access to Capitol's back catalog and led to the release of reissues of old Capitol albums. Additionally, EMI and Rhino acquired the Roulette family of labels in 1989. As their deal with Capitol came to an end in 1992, Time-Warner offered an opportunity for growth. Half of the label was sold to Time-Warner

'Grievous Angel' features much of the same band that played on his solo debut, and they perform with the same effortless grace and authority (especially guitarist James Burton and fiddler Byron Berline). Parsons still had plenty of gems on hand from more productive days, such as 'Brass Buttons' and 'Hickory Wind'. He also proved to be a shrewd judge of other people's material as always; Tom T Hall's 'I Can't Dance' and the Louvin Brothers's 'Cash on the Barrelhead.' for example. As a vocal duo, Parsons and Emmylou Harris only improved on this set, turning in a version of 'Love Hurts' so quietly impassioned and delicately beautiful that it's enough to make you forget Roy Orbison ever recorded it. - 180 Gram Vinyl.
